OEC Program and Resources

NSP’s training programs for ski patrollers and mountain hosts are considered the standard of training for emergency care in the outdoor environment and are recognized by resorts and recreational facilities in all 50 states.
OEC is NSP’s signature course offering. This emergency medical responder course is tailored to the non-urban rescuer. This course is required of all NSP patroller members and is offered primarily through NSP patrols, though some NSP affiliate organizations offer the course as well.
In an OEC course, you will learn about many aspects of outdoor care, including:
– Performing safe and effective stabilization and extrication of injured persons in the outdoor environment
– Scene safety (identifying hazards to both responders and visitors)
– Safe and efficient use of outdoor emergency care skills to prevent further injury to visitors
The current national course fee is $150, and an annual refresher course is required to maintain certification.

Please upload your newest CPR card to your NSP profile by the end of the year, December 31, 2025.
As a reminder — don’t miss capturing free CAPCE credits.
If you have a NREMT certification, that is EMT/AEMT/EMT-I/EMT-P or Paramedic, please review your NSP member profile and ensure you have checked the box to indicate that credential and then upload your license so that the NSP sends CAPCE credit for all your NSP courses!
Second OEC-MSP Event Announced
Exciting news! The second announced date for a Rocky Mountain Division OEC-MSP event.
On March 28, 2026, Pajarito Ski Patrol will host the Southwest Region OEC-MSP final evaluation.
Any RMD qualified senior OEC candidate may participate.
